Another newsroom story from more than a decade ago.

It’s Friday night, the first Friday of high school football, and Charles Cromwell, sports editor of The Jonesboro Sun, looks up to see a young sports writer, hands in his lap, starring at the computer screen. “Troy, what are you doing?” Cromwell asked the youngster, now a well known Little Rock attorney.
“Thinking,” came the reply.
“Write, dammit, don’t think,” Cromwell shot back.

Re: Great newsroom stories. Commercial Appeal, late 1970s. Night copy desk chief E.B. “Blackie” Blackburn has just held Hi-1 for a murder story. Reporter comes tearing in and begins pounding out copy. Blackie is shouting for story.

Metro editor: “Blackie, the guy’s typing just as fast as he can! He’s only got two hands!”

Blackie: “Then fire the crippled sonofabitch!”

I give this post a 0; atleast that’s what I would have received from my beginning reporting professor. Misspelling a name equaled an automatic F. I wish I had the e-mail address of the recreation writer that no doubt has read everything you’ve ever written with red pen in hand. Haha
