Rex,
My buddies and I get together once a year in Augusta, Ar after duck season and make SAUSAGE...Lots of it... This year 450 lbs...last year 600.
Mostly breakfast links, Brawts, and Italian.
We all collect Antique sausage stuffers .

I usually make a bunch of homemeade boudin... I think we will probably set a side a date for just boudin... I will keep you in mind

With so many teams playing on Thursdays and even Sundays, the college tradition of Saturday games is slowly going the way of the dodo and "amateur" athletics. Hard to get excited about going to a game, and doing all that goes along with it, knowing that you have class the next day!

Mr. Bright: Keep doing what you're doing. If there were not large watermelons being grown for competitive events, Hope would not be Hope and Arkansas would be a far less colorful place.

Thanks for reading the Democrat-Gazette column each Saturday. It's a labor of love. Your class was always a favorite. I can remember pulling limbs off various trees and bushes when I would quail hunt with my dad in order to bring them to you on Mondays for identification. I too learned a lot -- Rex

I enjoyed your recent blog on big watermelons and of course noted you found the two recent New York Times articles on watermelons. The articles were unusual in that they were negative in regard to large watermelons. Rex, I am not sure of why she is so opposed to large watermelons grown for competitive events. I am sure I didn't stare at the old girl's boobs. Maybe she will come back sometime when the big melons are ripe and are available for tasting.

I look forward to reading your column each Saturday. It reminds me why I switched my biology testing format so that your answers were in written form. It is still fun to me to get your full perspective of what you have experienced and learned. I have learned a lot from you.

Nice blog post. Glad to see you are keeping one of the many jewels of the south alive. I was born a century to late and am always facinated by places and events that took place in the south especialy Louisiana were my family is from. Again good job with your post, and I will save it in my favorites list.
Here is a blog about my grandparents who lived in Rapides Parish Louisiana if you are interested. ://longrootshighbranches.blogspot.com/

Rex, there is nothing better than football season in the South. Especially when you go outsine and there is that first "cool" breeze from the North and you know the end of the 95-105 degree days are over. I remember with so much fondness the days of you and I getting up early and going squirrel hunting, getting a big breakfast and then doing an OBU game. I also have fond memories of the customary "road pop and Roi-tan" afterwards.
